Home Inspections

N.J. Home Inspector License # 24GI00027800

Building Inspection Engineering requires a lot of knowledge. Experience is an investment. Schkeeper believes that a licensed professional engineer with 40+ years of problem solving experience is your best assurance for evaluating your largest investment.

We request that our clients be present during their home inspection. It’s a great learning experience getting to know the condition of your new home and learning about any specialized maintenance needs. We begin with a client discussion to learn about concerns and expectations. Our observations start with how the structures are located on the property including surrounding topography that often is so important for proper roof and surface water drainage. When available, drawings and documents that detail structures and systems are reviewed. Schkeeper’s comprehensive Check List, for each of the inspection areas, facilitates making all observations.

The home inspection documents visual condition observations of hundreds of items including: Structural systems (roof, building frame, foundation, basement, crawl basements, exterior and interior walls); Waterfront structures (bulkheads, piers, docks); Building covering systems and penetrations (roof covering, building siding, windows, doors, flashing and sealing systems); Property (site facilities, drainage, property safety, parking); Electrical system; Plumbing system; Mechanical systems (heating, ventilation, air conditioning); plus special features such as EIFS, or client requirements such as Radon testing, or other engineering inspection or testing needs. Photo documentation is typically provided to help illustrate observations. Inspection report findings are summarized specifically for the observations made at this inspection. Inspections exceed New Jersey requirements and are performed to the standards of the National Academy of Building Inspection Engineers: www.nabie.org.

Depending on the nature of any problems identified, suggestions are often included in the report to provide direction for solving problems. The report is completed and presented. An oral presentation or follow up phone conversations are part of the Schkeeper, LLC service to assure complete communication meeting the client’s needs.
